Event – Toys for Joy 2009

Memorial Recreation Center – San Diego, CA

Two years ago was literally my first Rock Photography experience… I felt almost – well – lost… My shots were out of focus, off in composition, it was a learning experience… It was Toys for Joy 2007. But, I needed it and I couldn’t be more blessed by the opportunity – If I really look back – It was the first opportunity that I had where I started turning my love for photography into something to share and eventually into Daniel Galang Photography… It began even before Reyelisa’s fashion concept shoot… Besides photography though, watching the kids faces getting those toys – it was like – well it was like Christmas morning… I’ll admit I loved opening presents all the way til I was – well I still love it =D but seeing the joy on these kids faces…

There was a lot of need there… Toys for Joy doesn’t just give away Toys to kids in need… they give away bags of clothing and bags of groceries to families in need… It is a huge ministry… Well, here are a few shots from the day – despite the rain, almost 8000 people came and ~12000 toys were given away and tens of thousands of articles of clothing…

That last one says it all for me – cut away all the distractions – the massive amounts of people, the piles of toys and clothes, the rain…. heck even the color in the picture!… to a child it didn’t matter… they are just so drawn by the one gift that they get to come away with… In this case, it wasn’t the face that drew me to this picture… it was the feeling that whatever their personal situation, this is the thing that mattered in this moment… that was their moment joy for the day.

Bobbie G. - The image of great excitement in the recipient’s faces is priceless, especially the children. Looking through you pictures overwhelmed with emotion, and gratitude of all the blessings our family has. It is a joy that you have photography in you life, giving you the outlet to give of your talent that God has given you. Love you Daniel. – Mom
